Highly sought after as an instructor, Dean has a personal “hands-on” approach to teaching that presents the student with important knowledge of different approaches to drawing and painting and allows each student to progress at their own rate.
Private lessons are open to all levels of painting and drawing experience. The lessons are designed to deepen the student’s insights and understanding of the creative process through mastery of the fundamentals of various artistic techniques. All lessons will include demonstrations, discussions of composition, values, and color and also provide time for the students to work on their own, in addition to assigned projects. Lists of materials are provided for beginners, and additional supplies will be recommended as each student develops and explores various styles and techniques.
Student artists generally meet with Dean once a week for two hours. Projects to better master each week’s lessons will also be recommended between each lesson. Lessons take place at the instructor’s studio, located near Mission Dolores, in San Francisco, and within easy walking distance to MUNI and BART. Mr. Larson is also available to go to student’s homes or studios, if arranged in advance.
